If you're concerned about your potential liability as a board member, this program is for you.  You'll walk away armed with a fundamental understanding of the key legal issues facing 501(c)(3) nonprofit boards today.  Designed specifically for non-lawyers, this introductory workshop makes seemingly complex legal topics accessible to all.  Case studies help to bring key points to life.

You will learn:
- How to meet your duties of care, loyalty, and obedience.
 - What to include - and not include - in meeting minutes.
 - When to use executive sessions and how to handle them properly.
 - What to look for in directors and officers insurance coverage.
 - How to handle conflicts of interest wisely.
 - And much more!
Come to this workshop to gain confidence in your ability to ensure your organization's adherence to legal and ethical standards.  Participants will receive numerous practical handouts.

The workshop is presented by attorney Robert H. Levin, principal of a solo law practice specializing in nonprofit organizations.  Rob also specializes in land conservation and values-based estate planning, and he serves on the board of Portland Trails.  Rob has valuable experience in facilitation and conflict resolution.  Before law school, he worked at a mediation center in New York City, resolving business, neighbor, and family disputes.
