A Hands-On Workshop for Board Members
One of the most important roles for a board of directors is the recruitment and training of new board members. A cohesive, high-functioning board depends on members who understand their jobs as board members. Unfortunately, many boards do not realize the value of a well-thought-out process of bringing on new board members and preparing them for their governance role. This workshop will give you the knowledge and tools to develop a great board member recruitment and orientation process.
You will learn how to: - Make the most of your board members and help them get up to speed quickly. - Assess the effectiveness of your organization's orientation process. - Design an orientation for a new organization…or re-vamp an existing program. - Put together a useful board of directors' handbook. - Minimize the chances of board members feeling they don't "fit in." - Avoid common mistakes when recruiting people to your board. - Create an on-going board development process for your board.
Come to this workshop to learn how to prepare your board members to contribute to the organization's strategic leadership from day one. Participants will receive handouts they can put to use immediately.
The workshop is presented by Suzanne Austin, Associate Director at the Institute for Civic Leadership.
